WHY HOST A SCREENING?
What I Want You To Know is an intimate journey alongside post-9/11 veterans as they share deeply personal stories from their deployments and explore truth and justice in the context of their wars. Their depictions of moral injury provide a unique and critical perspective on the cost and consequences of war. This perspective is valuable to nonprofits, educators, mental health providers, community groups, veterans service organizations, and other groups that support veterans or are interested in learning about their challenges and about the post-911 wars.
A What I Want You To Know screening can:
Increase empathy and support for veterans, fostering greater understanding of their struggles
Educate family members, community members and caregivers about veteran wartime experiences and the burden of moral injury
Validate the experiences of veterans who fought in Iraq, Afghanistan and also Vietnam - especially those who grapple with moral injury
Provide a training tool for mental health professionals who work with veterans and need to understand moral injury and wartime experiences
Cultivate bonds between veterans and supportive communities
Deepen understanding of the post-911 wars and their impact
Spark conversations around the obligations of citizenship
“This film delivers profoundly honest veteran experiences that are usually only spoken about in private, and are too often drowned out, even now.”
Dr Cathal Nolan,
Boston University Professor of History
Author of Mercy: Humanity in War
